Would-be Guatemala mayor nabbed in rivals

GUATEMALA CITY — Police have arrested an ex-mayoral candidate in a town outside Guatemala City on charges he ordered the murder of two rival candidates. Fernando Marroquin was arrested Tuesday in Antigua. Rival Enrique Ovalle was gunned down in a car on June 11,pso2 RMT. Five days later Enrique Dardon was shot to death in a barber shop,ro RMT.All were running for mayor of San Jose Pinula, a town of 50,DQ10 RMT,000 people west of Guatemala's capital, in a Sept. 11 vote.Interior Minister Carlos Menocal says he has ballistic evidence implicating two of Marroquin's workers. Marroquin was also attacked but Menocal says that was faked and is charging him with simulating a crime.Officials in his party say Marroquin is no longer a candidate in the election.Only one candidate is left on the ballot.
