Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 to come on 2 discs

The Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 will arrive on two discs when the game releases this October. That's according to an image of a promotional poster being carried by Japanese blog Esutero (via PlayStation Lifestyle), which also says the PS3 edition will ship on one Blu-ray disc. We've contacted EA formtrment.Last year, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said that Capcom had to cut a significant amount of content from the Xbox 360 version of the game due to size issues with its DVD format.Microsoft has seemingly acknowledged what developers such as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow creator Mercury Steam have labelled an Xbox 360 "storage problem". In March, the platform holder reportedly began trialling a new disc format that will add an extra 1GB of storage to Xbox 360's ageing 7.95GB DVD format.Back in May, LA Noire shipped on three discs for Xbox 360. Twinbee confirmed for 3DS 3D Classics

Twinbee - a classic upscrolling shooter - will be the next game rmttrive in the 3DS' 3D Classics range. Originally released in Japan in 1985 by Konami as a coin-op arcade title, it was later ported to the Famicom (Japan's NES) but never saw a release outside the Far East. The most unique aspect of the game is its item system - you shoot at clouds to reveal floating bells that change colour as you shoot them. You juggle them with your bullets, trying not to let them fall off the screen until they turn the desired colour before collecting them to receive a specific power-up - all while trying to dodge bullets and kill enemies (check the video below). Nintendo Japan has confirmed that the title will arrive on 3DS with new 3D effects on August 10, but will lack the two-player option featured in the original. It's also unclear if the game will come to western regions considering the original's Japan-only release. To be honest, we wouldn't be too bothered if it doesn't. We're hoping to see some better games come out of the 3D Classics range. And there's already an upscrolling shooter in there (Xevious). If it was the Super Nintendo sequel, Pop n' Twinbee, we'd be a lot more excited. That game was MINT. Mike Jackson

Battlefield 3 unlocks will take 100 hours

If you're aiming to hit 100 percent on Battlefield 3 then you'd better quit your job before it arrives on shelves. When asked on Twitter how long it would take to complete a kit on average, Battlefield 3's senior gameplay designer Alan Kertz replied with the following:"If you unlock every weapon, every gadget, and every unlock for every weapon... something like 100 hours."That's a pretty big number for the whole game and a ridiculous amount of time needed to complete a single kit so we're guessing Kertz was talking about unlocking everything. And that's just the weapons and gadgets. It's already been confirmed that Battlefield 3 has 10 times the amount of unlocks as Battlefield 2 including "a huge unlock tree for vehicles alone."There arermt medals, ribbons and service stars to pick up as awards for skill and generally top notch soldiering. Dishonored will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, and PCs in 2012.The game is being created by Raphael Colantonio, lead designer on Arx Fatalis, and Harvey Smith, lead designer on Deus Ex, so it’s got a bit of a pedigree. We'll get full details when the next issue of Game Informer hits the newsstands in Early July, but until then, there's a preview of the issue's cover above and here's a brief description of the game:"Dishonored is the antithesis of a edge-of-your-seat roller-coaster ride. It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone. It's a game about infiltration where you can set up traps and slaughter the entire garrmtr of an aristocrat's mansion rather than sneak in. It's a game about brutal violence where you can slip in and out of a fortified barracks with nobody ever knowing you were there. It's a game about morality and player choice where the world you create is based on your actions, not navigating conversation trees."Given the resumes of the creators of this game, the involvement of Bethesda, and that description, I don't think it's premature to proclaim this the greatest video game of all time.Source: Game InformerAll of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Activision announced at the Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles last week that it's fully funded the rmtsl to the original fan flick, which first appeared via a teaser site back in February and whipped up a Modern Warfare 3 reveal frenzy. At the time Activision distanced itself from the fan-film but is clearly fully embracing the sequel. You can see why, it's a pretty professional production: Watch in HD No comments yet, be the first! Xiah Interview

Questions by Imortil
Answered by Xiah

Onrpg: Can you explain the classes and their abilities please?
Mage – this female character uses a fan and brush to combat her enemiermtsr speed makes up for her lack of strength and stamina. The Mage character is capable of healing other members in her guild as well as taming monsters. Her quick speed is a valuable asset during group play.

Sword Man – equally skilled in offensive and defensive skills due to his great strength and high stamina. Trmthharacter uses swords as his main weapon of choice.

Ghost Fighter &ndauses a talon and tonfa as his primary weapons. This character relies on his speed and ability to poison enemies. What he lacks in the category of Life stats, is more than compensated with his high level of attack power. Has two special fighting skills which make him a great asset during combat. The ability to appear dead when around enemies and the ability to ascertain an opponent’s information can prove to be invaluable during battle.

Warrior – relies on his natural strength and stamina to overpowes enemies. He also has the ability to confuse his opponents during combat. This is a great choice for beginners due to his high stamina level. The Warrior’s slow attack speed is a slight disadvantage, but can be compensated by the high level of damage that he is able to inflict on enemies during battle. This character is a valuable addition during combat since he is able to block attacks by confusing the enemy.

Onrpg: What features set Xiah apart from other online role-playing games on the market already?
There are a few elements that set Xiah apart from other online role-playing games that are on the market. First of all, Xiah is an Asiaemed MMORPG. There are not many games within this category that currently are focusing on this theme. Another unique element is that gamers can use a game pad in addition to the traditional keyboard. This is a first-of-its-kind feature in the online gaming world. The game pad is something gamers enjoy since it brings a sense of familiarity when it comes to controllability. It also is more comfortable to use during extended game-play.

Onrpg: Are there any boss, or raid type monsters?
Yesere are “boss” monsters in Xiah. These bosses are different from the other monsters of the same type in that are stronger (need more effort to kill) and they drop more valuable items when killed that players can pick up. We also included monsters that are not boss monsters, but are extremely challenging.

Onrpg: Are there things to do other than fight monsters in Xiah?
Yes, there are many things players can do other than fighting monsters. You can undertake a quest, open and operate a personal store, interwith other players from all over the world in real-time among other things.

Onrpg: There are a lot of games coming out over the next few months, why should people pick Xiah over any of the others?
There are many games expected to launch in Q4 of this year as well as Q1 of 2007. Xiah offers many elements which players have been asking for from MMORPGs. Xiah was designed to be easier to play for beginners than other MMORPGs while still offering plenty of excitement and challenges. Also, the graphics are extremely detailed and the Asian-theme is a unique category for MMORPGs. The other element which we focused on to different Xiah froher games on the market is that of creating an extensive community system.

Bungie's PS3, 360 stormer First-look vid

Bungie has lifted the lid on its Activision-published cross-platform game for the first time ever - revealing what appears to be a new logo. The final few minutes of new (amazing), hour-long documentary O Brave New World discusses the Activision project in-depth. As we know you're all busy peeps, we've sliced the section out for you to check out below. The logo comes right near the end - complete with dramatic music. Intriguingly, we're told that the project - expected for release on PS3, 360 and PC - will "at some point" become "more the fans' than [Bungie's] and that it will "take a life of its own". The game will also "reach players in ways we haven't before". Could we be in MMO territory here?"I want the fans to know that we did Halo because we wanted to do Halo, and we did ODST because we wanted to do ODST, and we did Reach because we wanted to do Reach," says Martin O'Donnell Audio director. "But now we want to do something brand new. Now we want to do something different." Bungie was previously owned by Microsoft, but split with the company back in 2007 to bermtcindependent. The firm signed an exclusive deal with Activision in April last year. CVG Staff

The Art Institute to teach classes Online

The Art Institute Online Launches Student Community in Second LifeOnline Courses Will Be rmtTt In Virtual 3D Learning Environment

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Art Institute Online, a division of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, has opened a student campus in Second Life, a virtual online community, which will be the forum for a new Business Communications course. The faculty, realizing trmthtential for a rewarding learning experience, credits student interest in Second Life as the source for the course’s development.

Developed by San Francisco-based Linden Lab, Second Life is a rapidly growing and constantly changing 3D MUVE (multi-user virtual environment) whresidents can discover a world of exploration, socializing, creativity, self-expression, and learning. The online society uses real-time 3D streaming technology and runs on proprietary software that students can download from the Second Life web site at www.secondlife.com.

Second Life allows The Art Instituteine students and faculty to create avatars – or cartoon-like characters – that interact with one another and are controlled via keyboard and mouse. The course will be primarily asynchronous and students will have the opportunity to communicate in an environment that lends itself to socialization.

The course will involve both constructivism (learning by doing) and simulation-based learning. By providing real-world objects, structures, and scenarios, student ‘players’ will be able to apply knowledge of buss processes and techniques associated with the real world to this virtual environment

“An environment such as this takes advantage of lateral and community-based learning,” said Jeannie Novak, Academic Program Director, Game Art & Design/Media Arts & Animation at The Art Institute Online. “We are always striving to create that within our current 2D online courses and this certainly takes lateral learning to the next l.”

“We are very excited to be a part of something so revoonary,” said Kate Kelleher, VP of The Art Institute Online. “Our venture into Second Life is a wonderful complement to our creative online education and is sure to provide our students with an innovative and quality learning experience.”

Instructors say the Second Life class experience is particularly enhanced for online learners. In Second Life, classmates and instructors don’t just communicate in chat rooms; they can actually see one another ——r, at least, digital alter egos — on screen.

“Students will always know they're taking a course,” said Novak. “But they'll be playing a game in the pss, which is what serious gaming is all about.”

The Art Institute Online joins other colleges and universities that have set umpuses on virtual islands, where classes meet and students interact in real time. “I believe The Art Institute Online is truly revolutionizing online learning by developing this innovative course,” said Novak.

Wii U price, release date to be announced

Nintendo won't announce the price and release date for Wii U until 2012, president Satoru Iwata has confirmed. Speaking to investors following the company's disappointing first quarter financial results, the executive said: "Since the Wii U we showed you at the E3 show in June was still in the development phase without very specific proposals on the software titles, we are going to announce the release date and the price next year when we are able to explain the specific proposals."All we know for certain at this point is that Wii U is planned for release next year after March 31.Iwata also admitted Nintendo is concerned about the possibility that the drastic 3DS price cut barely six months into the system's lifecycle rmtc make potential early Wii U adopters hold out in the hopes of something similar."With regard to the influence on the Wii U, what we have to take most seriously is that the price markdown could damage the trust of the consumers who bought the Nintendo 3DS just after the launch," he said. "I feel greatly accountable for it. Our decision of the price markdown this time has a side effect that, at the launch of the Wii U, people may feel that the price might drop in the near future if they wait. What we will be able to do to recover the consumers' trust before the launch of the Wii U is very important to us." Tom Ivan

3 million Dirt 3 Steam keys leaked online

Steam codes for an estimated three million copies of Codemasters' Dirt 3 have reportedly been accessed and distributed online. Kotaku says they originate from a promotion being run by Codies and graphics card manufacturer AMD, which has been offering card buyers a free digital copy of the excellent racer.Millions of download codes put aside for the promotion were reportedly accessed and passed around the net. Codemasters told us this afternoon that AMD's redemption site had been compromised, rather than one of the publisher's own sites or servers. AMD is expected to issue a pubrmtltatement on the matter and we'll update this story when we get it.As pointed out in the original report, Codies or Valve could simply move to block the codes for the game, presuming they kept a record of them. Steam bans are another possible option. Tom Ivan

Sony May Never Know What the Hackers St

The Sony PlayStation Network is back online, but it was hacked back in April. Sony's servers were breached and over seventy million accounts were compromised. Sony still doesn't seem to be any closer to nabbing the individuals who carried out the attack."We do know that the information was accessed," Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai said in an recent BBC interview. "We don't know what part of the accounts were taken from our servers." The hackers might have stolen first names or just the last four digits of telephone numbers."It could be the entire account information," Hirai added. "We just don't know."That's not all Sony doermtsknow. Hirai said that the intruders were "very good" at covering their tracks on their way out of Sony's servers."We may not know for a very long time or we may never know," said Hirai, who added that Sony's learned it needs to be "very vigilant" with credit card info. That's comforting.Watch the interview in the link below. Kaz Hirai [BBC Thanks, Ducce!](Top photo | Game Watch Impress)

World of Warcraft

Just, wow...to say this now, I am defently buying WoW on release date.
I'm in stress beta, played first day it was out and it is awesome.
Classes/races: So, pretty common races, elf/human/dwarf/gnome/undead/orc/troll and then the tauren. All are great, I made all of rmttso far, except the gnome (gnome punt! :P) My favorite being the undead. Each feals totally different from the other
The classes are great too, and like the races, each is day and night different from eachother. I made almost all the classes and my favoritermt ar being the mage.
Graphics: The graphics are geat, if you make a orc/troll you well have to go to echo island (make your high enough...pesky crabs attack you, and dinosour type things) it is beautiful. Each area for the races, except those combined areas. Are awesome, each one. I love the undead area, gives that spooky feeling. Some people don't like the cartoony graphics, but their great
Gamepleneral: The gameplay is great, for a stress beta it runs pretty smoothly, except a few lag spikes. I barely get them. Also, my favorite part was swimming to echo island, and being able to swim underwater and keep fighting :) I was so amazed by it, you'll have to try it
I give this a 9/10, fora beta, this is one..or is..the best beta I've ever played

Why MMOs lack immersion

 。

 。

 。

 。

Trying to enjoy playing with a group of random players is fairly difficult (for me, anyway,) because I would typically end up with players that complain a lot and are greedy looters. Playing with people you actually know in real life, however, can be far more enjoyable. It's almost impossible to have every player in an MMO talk coherently or role-play accordingly to make the game world feel alive. There are some MMOs out there that have a strict role-playing only rule, but even then, some people like to break out of character and talk as they would normally because they think it would be funny or somethirmtn

 。

Not a lot of MMOs have this issue, but the ones that do can break the experience a bit. Like WoW's custom UI feature: The more the UI fills the screen, the more it detracts from the actual gameplay, thus taking immersion out of the experience. And then there's hotkeys and hot-bars. Sure, they might be the most efficient solution to control schemes in MMOs nowadays, but come on, we're in the year 2010 and we've been using the same setup for years now. If it were up to me, I'd say that MMOs should have the smallest, most compact UI possible so player won't be overly distractermtdh them.。

I suppose if you're the kind of person that doesn't care to be immersed in the game they're playing, most of these issues won't bother your. As for everyone else that does: They may havelook elsewhere.。

Grinding. Grinding everywhere. A lot of MMOs out there seem to fall back on this. It is fairly common for MMOs to use grinding as content filler. This might be fine for offline RPGs, but when you get to the l of grind in an MMO where you'll spend over a day just to get one level or you know that you can't get an ability until after you've sunk in months and months of game play, it stops being fun and you start to ask yourself why you're doing it.。

This is what most MMOs seem to resort to.

 。

 。

 。

Too much UI customization can be a bad thing.

A lot of companies these days like to take the most popular MMO and create cat MMOs to bank on its success. Imitation as they say is the ultimate form of flattery, but I see this as incredibly unimaginative game design. I cannot see how any player would feel any sense of attachment to the game world of these copycat MMOs especially if they previously played the MMO it's imitating. Perfect example of this experience would be from my time playing Elsword and then switching over to playing Fists of Fu (also known as "East Fantasy Online".) As much as Fists of Fu tired to throw in some originality, I had a major sensation of "been here, done that".  I couldn't feel like a part of the game world for East Fantasy Online simply because I felt as if I played this game before.。

 。

When was the last time you felt like you were living in the world of the MMO you played? Or the last time you felt like you were one with your virtual character? Chances are, you probably haven't felt that feeling in a long time. For me, I haven't felt immersed in an MMO since I was a kid. Maybe it was because my sense of childhood wonder helped fill the gap of being connected to the game world, but whatever the case, many MMOs just don't seem to have that spark. Many MMOs today lack immersion and while some he issues are a bit more apparent than others, here are some of the reasons that have the most impact:。

Why MMOs lack immersion
By Michael Sagoe (mikedot), OnRPG Journalist。

UIs, death penalties, grinding, imitation and communities; all of these factors can make or break immersion, and since a lot of MMOs do not seem to break away from these conventions, they lack immersion. Single playames can create a better sensation of immersion since the game worlds are fixed. If a game developer truly wants to create an immersive experience, stricter play rules would have to be enforced and lots of polish and refinement of typical MMO norms would have to be made.。

And also lack of any quest variety can also be comparable to excessive grinding. A player doesn't  feel any sort of accomplishment ttachment to the world they're in if they are forced to slaughter a million rats or boars or deal with NPCs that just act like vending machines to give players more quests so they can do more grinding just to advance. Most MMOs have been designed around the grind system for so long that the companies see this and the profit they generate, and refuse to evolve. I guess as the old saying goes:  "If it's not broke (for them,) why fix it?"。

Shaiya Online - The only MMORPG to feature permanent death

One more thing I'd like to add: Bots and gold farmers. Seeing characters roam the game world with no one playing them and gold farmers that spam messages all over about how you should buy their bot gath gold breaks immersion on so many levels.。

Now I know that thind of thing would be almost impossible to include in most MMOs, but the lack of penalties for dying removes any real tension from battling out in the game world. One MMORPG, however, went into an interesting direction about death in an MMO. Shaiya Online was an MMORPG that contained a special game feature for anyone that wished to take the challenge through Ultimate mode. The reward for playing in Ultimate mode was huge, but the fact that you could get killed and have your character deleted if you weren't revived in three minutes gave most players a sense of tension in making sure their characters stayed alive.。

Here is the biggest and most important part of immersion in an MMO: The overall community. Just imagine this: You're playing your favorite MMO, roaming around town and generally enjoying yourself. You stop to look around and start asking players if they want to party up with you for dungeon raiding or something, and the only response you get from a random player is "no, piss off plz". While dealing with rude people may be true to life, dealing with rude players that talk like they're on an IRC can make the game world feel out of touch. This is just a small scenario that adds to the many other situations you might halaying with others in an MMO.。

Dungeon Runners Review Newbie Friendly

Also, as the game specializes on exaggeration, it is fun to see how your character moves and sounds whenever you encounter a monster or an NPC. Though rmtIe to admit there are times when the humor on some NPCs are strained that you cannot find the slightest humor in it.。 The game’s audio also a treat, especially the NPC’s dialogue. However, the audio can be quite irritating as you continue on playing.。 The overall look and feel of the game can be quite troublesome especially the foliage. Thankfully, there is a foliage control option in the game so you can manage if the grass is quite troublesome especially if you are in the middle of it and you cannot seem to click the monster you need to kill.。
While the quirkiness factor does put a novelty feel to the whole thing, Dungeon Runners does in fact have nothing more than that. As the game title suggests, Dungeon Runners is a game that is- well a dungeon exploration game. 。 Dungeon Runners also allows you to see what you equip to your character. This feature is hard to find in most of the f2p games available in the market.。 At the beginning of your character creation, you can immediately see the quirkiness of the game. Each of the three class starts of with a lengthy and comedic title. For the fighter, you start of as the Invigorated Fanatical Fighter, for the Mage, you are the Energetic Noobie Obsidian Mage and for the ranger you are the, All-around Bush League Poison Ranger.。 With the character sprites done in such a manner, you the game’s background and interface though suffers quite a bit. There are areas where the background is as fine as the character design but it is not that important as you will have to concentrate on the monster attacking you rather than the background.。 Like most f2ps you need to actually subscribe, or pay for the game itself to fully enjoy the full potential of the game. The subscription does not in anyway change the fact that DR is fun even if you do not shell out.。 The game’s in-game text can also be hard to read especially when you do play it in window modermt.ardless of what you do with the game’s resolution, you would still get the same hazy text. I advise that if you do want to save your eyes the trouble, play the game in full screen mode.。 While it is true that the lack of in-game content story wise is a real disappointment, DR is not about the story but rather a dungeon questing game. This is where DR really shines best, the dungeons are fun to go to though there are camera angle issues it is a spectacle to see how you can beat down those “icky” monsters using either a very large sword or bow or killing them with your spectacularly colored skills.。 The game is newbie user-friendly because the game is ample with NPCs that help you out on how to experience the game. Plus add the fact that having an NPC named “Noobsaur” that gives the players the initial run through on how to play the game really helps those who have just started out.。
You get to choose from three different job classes in Dungeon Runner, the Fighter, which is the melee character for DR, the Mage, which is your standard magic user type, and lastly the Ranger, which is the long-range character in DR.。 The lingo used in the game though could be quite a handful especially to those who are not familiar to the whole l337 speech. Though the learning curve for it is not quite as huge as other languages, it could initially irritate a newbie player.。 Asfrom the standard three classes in Dungeon Runners, you can also customize how your character looks in game. You have a limited pre-rendered selection of customizations on your character’s face, hair and hair color design. 。 Similar to most mmos, DR has the usual stats that you need to fill out whenever you level up. The stats, which are namely, Strength, Agility, Endurance and Intelligence, are as self-explanatory as they can be. There is an in-depth stat guide found in the DR forums where you can know more about how the computation is done which gives players the heads up on what stats they need to allocate for their preferred builds.。 From the company that has brought games like Exteel, City of Heroes, Lineage II to the MMO industry. NCOsoft introduces an MMO which puts a whole new meaning to the phrase “don’t take yourself too seriously”, Dungeon Runners (DR).。 By Vincent Haoson, Onrpg writer。
Usually in free-to-play MMOs you would be disappointed with the way the character design is done. In DR you can see that the character detail is smooth and refined. Though you are limited on using a few pre-rendered styles in the overall look, they are made in such a manner that passes as expertly done.。 The controls are also easy to use and very convenient. You do not need to keep on clicking to kill a monster all you need to do is just press on the left mouse button until you kill the monster.。 However, if you do want to delve into the world of Dungeon Runners, you should then get ready to spend your money on the game. It is true that you can enjoy playing DR without spending a nickel yet you cannot utilize your character’s full potential without getting the privileges of a premium subscription. On the other hand, you can purchase the game off the stores, which gives you a hefty advantage then being just a premium subscriber. The question though is that are you willing to spend yooney on a game like Dungeon Runners, that is for you decide.。 The quirkiness factor does not just begin with the character creation. Once you log into the game you are welcomed by a little read dinorsaur named, Noobsaur. This “dinosaur” is the beginner NPC that would give you the starting quest so that you can jump start on your DR experience.

Why Final Fantasy XIV Will Fail

Yoichi Wada (CEO of Square Enix) claims that he wanted to appeal to a more global market but Final Fantasy XIV has been primarily aimed at the Japanese market. Perhaps it's because Square Enix believes that this trmtyf MMORPG would not appeal to the Western market. That's a ridiculous thought given the success of their original MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI, in both America and Europe.。

Blog: Why Final Fantasy XIV Will Fail
By Joshua Temblett (Dontkillmydreams), OnRPG Journalist。

 。

For a company that is trying to appeal to a more global market, Square Enix appears to be showing a complete disregard for anyone who is outside thrmteanese market. It wouldn't be that hard to announce Final Fantasy XIV news to Edge in England, or PlayStation Official Magazine in America, at the same time they announce this news to Japanese magazine Famitsu.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Square Enix seem to believe they should tackle the twgions, East and West, at two completely different points in time. For example, maybe Square Enix feels that it should appeal to the Japanese market well in advance of the release date and focus more on appealing to the European and American market once they're closer to the global release date. Could it be that the marketing team feel that by doing so, they are able to control the hype more efficiently in Europe and America?。

Note: the opinions within this blog article are not necessarily the opinions of OnRPG.com.

Why then is Square Enix ignoring this huge American and European market? Why do fan sites to translate Final Fantasy XIV news from Japanese to English? Why isn't Square Enix announcing FFXIV news globally, instead of just to Japan first?。

There is no point in focusing primarily on a Japanese market and ignoring Europe and America. Perhaps Square Enix believe that there isn't a demand for Japanese games in Europe and America, however we know this is the case as Final Fantasy XIII (FFXIII) has sold very well. Consider the game was released not even a month ago, it has already acuminated 1 million sales in America and roughly 800,000 in Europe, and that's just for the PlayStation 3. On the Xbox 360, the game has sold roughly 1.14 million, in both America and Europe.。

Why Square Enix would focus on just appealing to tapanese gamer doesn't make sense to me as the Japanese market is a complete mess. In 2009 the Japanese Gaming Market shrank by 6.9%, roughly $5,828,994,686 with the best selling game in the region being Dragon Quest IX, which sold 4,100,968 million units. This game was ironically created by Square Enix.。

 。

 。

 。

The best selling game in the European regios Wii Sports Resort, which sold a whopping 5,566,488 million units. The best selling game in America was (shock!) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which sold 6,048,611 million units. Please note that I ignored Wii Sports whilst talking about best selling games because a copy is given free with every Nintendo Wii purchase. I don't think I need to explain any further, do I? The point is that both Europe and America have a stronger presence in the gaming market than Japan.。

 。

Final Fantasy XIV's success or failure is dependent on one thing, and one thing only. Sadly enough this has nothing to do with the depth and variety of the game play, its visual style or storyline. No, instead SquEnix's new MMORPG will either soar, or die at the bottom of the charts depending on its marketing. Unfortunately Final Fantasy XIV's marketing is in shambles. I'll explain why.。

 。

If you do not trust these figures, then we can tell that Final Fantasy XIIld well in America and Europe, just by looking at the official software charts from the region. For example in its first week FFXIII was on top of the UK charts.。

The reason why Final Fantasy XIV's marketing is failing is because Square Enix has been lazy. Getting information to people now is easier than ever, with thternet, as I've mentioned many times throughout this article, it really wouldn't be that hard for Square to officially announce news regarding Final Fantasy XIV globally.。

It is only through extensive global marketing that Final Fantasy XIV will be a total succ I wish it well. Show your consumers that you not only care about them, but that you respect them, Square Enix. 。

 。

 。

In order for Final Fantasy XIV to be a success, Square Enix need to start appealing to the Western demographic by giving out information to these markets at the same time as the Japanese markets. If your game isn't in the forefront of gamers' minds, then your marketing has failed. SquEnix can, and should, do much more to appeal to the hardcore audience who are reading every fan translated piece of news from Japan.。

To be honest, I would like to think that Square Enix has some master plan for marketing Final Fantasy XIV to Europe and America, however I doubt this is the case. Even if they are intending to do this, their strategy is failing and definitely backfiring. By releasing a plethora of information to Japanese news outlets and not to the European and American markets, Square Enix is demonstrating that the company doesn't care about their Western consumand that they only want to focus on their Japanese audience, at least this is the image that they're sending to the future players of Final Fantasy XIV.。

 。

All of this information shows us that there is indeed a market for Japanese Role Playing Games. Naturalbecause of World of Warcraft's success, we also know that there is certainly a market for MMORPGs.。

Japanese games magazines like Famitsu, have also had access to the Final Fantasy Alpha test, and they have been allowed to produce and write articles on the subject. Why hasn't Square Enix done the same for American or European publications?。

 。

 。

These are the questions that baffle me. Surely it isn't too hard for Square Enix to release all news regarding Final Fantasy XIV at the same time globally. This would show that not only does the company have a respect for regions, it would also show that the developers care about everyone and aren't just going to focus on and listen to their own country.。

Any More Space For Anoth

After starting the game, players can choose to join either the TYI or the Genides, Black Prohecy's main factrmti We had the feeling that choosing either of these factions, was more of an esthetic choice as both factions can eventually earn the same skills and weapons.。

Black Prophecy is at heart an MMO and therefore you won't be fighting alone in the vast emptiness of space. Both PVP and PVE will be available in the game anrmtdn some scenarios that combine elements of both.

Black Prophecy also tracks a lot of in game statistics and this results in many achievements for you to eard show off to others, for instance your clan-buddies. Speaking of clans, Black Prophecy introduces a new cool twist to guild housing. You and your teammates can actually own your own space station and add usable compartments to it, like repair bays or vendors

Afthoosing a faction, you'll create your Avatar and there are quite a few options to create your own unique space-farer.。

Of course, you can’t head out without a good rig to fly in. You start out with a basic ship and during the course of your tra you will acquire funds to build out your ship. The best thing here is that every new component directly affects the look of your ship and the further you level the more exotic and cooler these upgrades look. Suffice to say you won't recognize your starting rig, when you reach endgame in Black Prophecy.。

During the GDCSan Francisco, we met with Gamigo's PR-manager Dennis Hartmann. Dennis gave us an exclusive first-look at the English version of this new title and from what we've seen in the 30 minute rundown, we can already say this game is VERY promising. With game mechanics similar to classics like Wing Commander (and more recently the Freelancer titles), Black Prophecy promises to deliver a vast explorative environment against a story driven backdrop.。

The Devolution of MMOs

MMOs have been around for more than a decade, constantly boosting its capabilities while coming up with various ways to make the experience better than ever. What was once a game of grinding and rurmtn has evolved to questing and riding, and what was once an ingame taxi service has become a free-roaming flight experience. It's amazing how MMOs managed to evolve throughout the years, continuously coming up with new titles and new subgenres to welcome into the MMO industry.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Character creation also became mediocre, despite the constant growth of quality graphics. Most of the new classes being released are now but renamed classes from 5+ year old MMO games. Some of them even divide a single archetype just to come up with two PSEUDO-NEW characters in an attempt to keep the experience fresh. I don't even want to get started on the lack of character loormtktomization and how free-to-play games make you pay out the nose just to get any resemblance of uniqueness.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">I remember playing RF Online for the first time and beilown away by its awesome mechanics. Being transported into a war-filled universe where your only purpose is to help your race reign supreme is just awesome, and I'm sure you enjoyed your first MMOs as much as I did. Remember what it was like back then when only a handful of MMOs existed? Everyone was always waiting for the next patch/episode, and as an RF Online player, I was waiting for the next siege kit for my Accretian Annihilator. The game evolved continuously, constantly giving us new class rebalances, and various features that made the game better than ever.銆p style="text-align: left;">Remember what it was like to control three separate characters in a turn-based game where you would most likely think for each character? That was seriously a drag. During my days in Ragnarok Online (the first MMO to ever grace my country), it was a blessing to have someone ELSE cast that healing spell on me. As a DPS assassin, all I did was slap that overgrown man-goat with daggers while the mages and priests back us up. We all had our roles to play, and it was awesome. As more players entered the scene, bigger and harder bosses were made-- bigger, badder, and ready to match blades against a larger player base. Dungeons also grew to become another epic feature in MMORPs they put teamwork to the ultimate test. Hell, I remember my first WoW (World of Warcraft) instanced dungeon; at first I thought that the instances were like dungeons in Ragnarok where you can just run around freely and wish someone has your back. Turned out help was not coming in the end.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆

By: Kei Beneza (dividelife), Onrpg Journalist銆p style="text-align: left;">My role or importance was completely up to me, depending on how much I make my impact on this world. The world was full of players, and back then I was in awe at how interactive this genre could be-is "Online RPG". I could freely talk to everyone, and ask them where 'THAT' monster is, and they would answer in a variety of ways, unlike single player RPGs where most of them say the same thing every time you interact with them. I didn't need another controller to not feel alone. It was indeed Massively Multiplayer.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Soon after the release of Ragnarok Online, mord more games followed. At first everyone was happy to see 3D MMOs, especially after playing 2D games for a long period of time. Yes, more and more games came out and the corporate suits realized this industry was not just a passing fad. Soon after there came a time when a new title was just another renamed game with renamed classes, renamed weapons, renamed skills, and reworded plots. 9 out of every 10 games just became an exercise in tedium.銆p style="text-align: left;">It is as though the developers have branded thinre as PERFECT and that it no longer needs to be improved. The grinding was still there, and most of the quests given were nothing but monster checklists that often just point you to your proper leveling grounds.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Despite a few minor tweaks, you will always have that weird feeling that you have been there and done it all before. Boss battles started to feel linear, and even though some games have intense scripts that make the experience worthwhile, the majority of games just drown it with their standard repetitive systemse designers put more time into designing hotkeys and auto-attack features to make these instances less straining than they do designing content to excite the player into active participation.銆p style="text-align: left;">It was as though the developers were running out of ideas. Games started to copy other games, which led to a continuous game cloning process. A good example would have to be the MMORPG genre. Before, everything seemed fresh and each game had its own specialty. Whether it's RF Online, Ran Online, Khan Online, or MapleStory, every MMO had its own trademark feature, and ers would play that game for their distinct content. Sadly, most of the MMOs today are rehashes of semi-succesful games launched before them. You find yourself asking how many times you can really support Lu Bu in Ancient China's Three Kingdoms before it gets old.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;">As more games were released, more and more systems were made available. Gunbound for example, brought a whole new light to MMO gaming, branching out from the RPG genre to a Worms Armageddon type game. It was somewhat refreshing to have a PVP based game after years of killing monsters and grinding experience nonstop. Gunz Online also appeared soon after that, ing us a Matrix-like shooter that lets players run on walls and do epic acrobatic shooting techniques in midair.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">How I wish MMOs could stay the way it was back then... back then when the genre was growing rapidly, where the only way to go was forward. Sadly, progression stopped, and developers started to lack ideas, or at least the means to enact said ideas. Encd is my take on the Evolution and Devolution of MMO gaming. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it.銆p style="text-align: left;">Soon, more and more buffs and privileges worked its way to various item malls, which slowly turned the words free-to-play to free-to-get-owned. Games started to become imbalanced, with paying members holding a big advantage over those who are playing the game for free. Things even got worse after THESE games started to charge for content necessary for chter progression. Free-to-play became a bait for players who wanted to play for free, eventually forcing them to pay MORE to keep up with the competition. In my honest opinion, it may be free-to-play but it's definitely pay-to-enjoy.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;">MMOs have progressed in a variety of ways. Back then, during the MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) days, players weren't blessed witic visuals. Instead, they operated on a DOS/IRC like interface and used their imagination, much like the table top games they were modeled after. Back then they did not deserve the M in MMORPG, as the game could only hold a few players. Back then it was all about reading and projecting, which would most likely bore you to death if you were to play it on this era. But we had lower expectations of what was awesome!銆p style="text-align: left;">I'm not sure if the games really did devolve as much as I said it did, but I believe that it's still something to think about. Did I just get used to MMO games? Maybe that is why I think they are devolving into the state of absolute stasis. Expansion packs are known to improve the game further, but most of the expansion packs I have seen lately are nothing but recycled contserved on a silver platter. New content does not seem that new anymore, with innovation being as rare as a successful indie game company (coincidence?). The added storylines also seem forced, like a lackluster filler of Naruto you just can't wait to get over.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Thanks for reading my article. What is your input on at what point the MMO Industry wenong? Check out our new reorganized forums and give us your thoughts!銆p style="text-align: left;">And now we move on to today... As much as I would want to be all enthusiastic about tarticle, I believe that it would be quite irrelevant given the growing number of disappointments released the past few years. Like many of you, in the early 2000s I believed the only way this industry could move was forward. Boy was I in for a surprise.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">When I first played an MMORP was astounded at how broad the game was. It was like an open ended world where your decisions matter. Unlike the old Final Fantasy RPGs I used to know and love, these games didn't run on rails. Sure, you are still tasked to do horrendous jobs like killing three bears or killing a boss monster, but the STORY will always be stuck at a specific moment in time until the developers decide to move it further. It then occurred to me that this was my story, and that I was about to contribute to this world as myself, not Cecil, Crono, Cloud, Squall, Fei, Vahn, or any other premade protagonist.銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">"Maybe that's where Dante (Devil May Cry) got it."銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Back then, I didn't mind buying prepaid cards and having my card charged to play quality content. However, it felt like manna from heaven when these MMO started to become free-to-play. I mean, who could resist playing their favorite games for free right? Being charged $14.99 per month was acceptable, but it is definitely a whole lot better when you are not being charged. It was in this era when the item mall was introduced, giving players a premium boost whenever they decide to pay for content, giving them higher exp, better drops, and a lot of extras (and I mean, a lot). Somehow the lure of the next shiny toy distracted me just enough that I wasn't put off by the realization; I had begun to pay more for Free-to- than I ever paid for a subscription.銆p style="text-align: left;">Don't get me wrong though--- I still love playing MMOs and still have a lot of recurring subscriptions for a bunch of gamI just hope they come up with something new soon because the possibilities of the industry are limitless. If they managed to give us that magical feeling they did back then, maybe it's only a matter of time before history repeats itself. A new decade is upon us. Let us hope 2011 proves to be the turning point in which the claims of ‘next generation MMO' are more than just marketing hype.銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;"> 銆p style="text-align: left;">Another feature that caught my attention was the PVP aspects. Teaming up is always fun, but of course, there must always be something to satisfy the player's hunger for player to player combat. Back then, Counterstrike was the biggest game we had, and no other game could bring that many players into the same arena. Fortunately for the genre, Ragnarok's PVP mode stepped up to the platt was amazing how the game managed to fit 99 players in the same room. In what better way can you test your skills than fighting a whole battalion of bloodthirsty players, ready to wipe you off the field?銆p style="text-align: left;">銆p style="text-align: left;">Some of these games marketing teams even sunk as low as to disguise their advertisements as porn, redirecting poungry users to their generic games. MMO browser games are notorious at using this form of baiting. The bright side is that no matter which you get baited by, the gaming experience is almost precisely the same as each other. So at least you won't have to worry about what you are missing in those other browsers you bypassed!銆p style="text-align: left;">

Evony Review I Think I've Seen This Game

 。

 。

Formerly called Civony, Evony is a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Web browser game that shines for its strarmtt features. It's not really a hard game per se, but the dynamics are so enthralling, you'd think you're actually playing an application game.。

If you're familiar with games like Farmville, you know what it's like to wait for something to grow, or in this case build. Some structures in the game takes days to build. Think of it as though you're really in charge of a virtual world that builds itself in real time. Units are trained the same way as well, making it a bit realistic but dull with waiting. I'm not really that much of a waiter so this part of the game didn't appeal to me that much; however, the waiting time builds your suspense, hoping you don't get attacked before your walls are built. It's a very awesome factor. Fast paced games > slow ones? Guess not. I'm not sure if you're willing to invest that much time on a browser game, but they sure are grmtohen you're dead bored at work.。

 。

All in all, the game is really fun to play whether you subscribe or not. It's really newbie friendly so you don't have to worry about being ganged on when first entering the scene. The visuals arite impressive especially for a browser game, with well-rendered buildings that blend well in their respective terrain. There are tons of people who are playing the game so it'll be hard to feel alone even if you want to be. Tier whoring or subscription whoring may be an issue for those who want an equal basis for all players, but heck there's nothing we can do about that right? The game also features a wide set of linear quests that don't seem to mix with the storyline. It's no biggie... At least the game has quests right?。

Expanding Lands in Evony

 。

 。

You'll start out as a lord of a certain clan, doing various deeds that don't seem to mix well with the storyline. You'll be doing trivial stuff, separating you from the storyline. It's actually crazy at some point, much comparable to Superman helping an old woman cross the road, aware that Lois Lane is falling off a building. Browser games have generic plots regardless of its well-written lore. I've had my share of browser gaming goodness, and might I say that most of them tend to dive off the plot 4 minutes into playing it. I guess this is what separates application g from this genre.。

Evony looks a lot like Age of Empires and Civilization. After looking at what the game's graphics have to offer, I was asded at how much these games have evolved throughout the years (wasn't Kingdom of Loathing just err... MS Paint-based?).。

The graphics are flawless and look a lot different when compared to other browser games. Everything is properly rendered, with a diverse set of buildings that are easy on the eyes. I guess browser games have taken their visuals to the next level. The elemenork well together, creating harmony between the elements. Other games have failed miserably when attempting this kind of approach, considering the fact that most of their elements stand out instead of blend in with the other features. With that in mind, this game truly reeks of awesomeness.。

Although the game has certain balance issues like the overpowered archers, combat canll be considered as good in Evony. You can pick from an array of soldiers, dressing them up and gearing them up to further compliment their efficiency in battle. You can also team up with other players or join an alliance to give you the upper hand. There are various ways to insure victory in this game, either by tier whoring or by simply ganging up on multiple targets.。

One thing about this game is its funny grammar. I really can't specify how many grammatical errors I've spotted during my game time. God please don't let this beautiful game end up like Zero Wing "ALLYOURBASEAREBELONGTO。

Building a Town

You can also expand your empires scope by conquering or befriending other towns. You will earn rewards as you team up with other areas (NPCs) earning either extra soldier, gold or other necessities. Competing with other players (PVP) is one of the main attractions of today's MMO games. No one could ever resist beating down other players to boost their online ranks and self worth. Worry not players! You will be given a 7-day immunity period against enemy attacks (specifically other players) when starting the game. Once you've established your base and array of soldiers, you'll probably be the one to beg for the barrier/immunity to go down LOL. The game has an outstanding community, making it hard for you not to fight. As much as the words MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER is concerned, I'd say that player population is good enough for you to enjoy playing this game for a long time.。

 。

The bad:
- Bad grammar
- Connection fails most of the time (even for some DSLs)
- Micro Transactions (tier whoring)
- It stays away from the plot。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Browser games are currently what turns non gamers into mind numbed zombies who will do their best to sneak a few minutes from work just to check on their online characters. Browser games are more or less work safe. They don't crash your computer, they don't look like s, and most of all they're easily closed (haha! I win Mr. Supervisor dude!). The best part about browser game is that they're system friendly. You don't really need to upgrade your PC 3 times a year to play these babies.。

 。

 。

 。

Yeah, just as the header suggeseverything that's acquired with real money can really boost your advantage over players who play for free. It's a cheap trick being pulled by most of the games that dub themselves free to play. I've tried tons of subscription methods for various MMOs from browser games to application ones. Although they aren't required for you to fully enjoy the game, they do provide an imbalanced advantage over other players. This really destroys the whole point of the words FREE TO PLAY... well, they didn't say FREE TO ENJOY or FREE TO TIERWHORE so I guess they're safe.。

Imbalanced Advantages

 。

The good:
- Awesome visuals
- Quests
- Micro Transactions
- Big community。
