Mccolgan on the road to success

Wedmore Tennis Club held their Road to Wimbledon tournament on Sunday. RossMcColgan came out on top and will now go on to compete in thecounty finals at Taunton.Should McColgan triumph in Taunton, he will qualify to play atWimbledon in a bid to be crowned national champion.Nine boys competed at Wedmore,tera gold, with McColgan beating JoePodpadec 6-1 in the first semi-final and Tom Hopestone-Bell comingout on top against Charlie Beake in the second thanks to a 10-8tie-break win.The final was played in windy conditions but both coped well toproduce an excellent match, which McColgan won 6-3.Wedmore also held their annual ladies' doubles event when tenplayers took to the courts with partners drawn, playing nine gamesagainst all the other couples.In a closely-fought contest, Sophie Wills and Jenny Fitzpatrickcame out on top after winning a total of 20 games, one more thanboth Sue Skeates and Sharon Sloman, and Karen Derrick and LizMattock.
